Fish Fry Yay! Gyotaku Printing
On April 3, we will be multiplying the fishes.

An all-time favorite, fish printing! Gyotaku (Translation: Fish Rubbing) is a traditional Japanese form of printmaking begun as a means to record the size and species of a fisherman’s catch.

Many of you will be happy to know that the fish we will use for our "plates" will be a very special species found in a variety of art supply stores and are called "Fish Replicas Made of Rubber".

The prints are amazingly detailed and delicate, and can be printed on many different surfaces: Thin papers, tissue papers, T-shirts, Tea towels...If you are bringing something special to print on, keep in mind, thinner is better!
Hope to see you on April 3rd!

About First Fridays
First Fridays at PrintSpace have been a way to come together once a month and share ideas and interests while making prints of one kind or another. We have created some great art together, and I've appreciated the innovations, support and kindness of our community of printers!
It has also served as a teaser. Do you like this particular technique and want to explore its properties in depth? Schedule a session to experiment and print with your own focus. Organize your own small group session for a great bonding activity!
I absolutely love opening the studio so people can experience the workings of an etching press and the camaraderie of a printmaking studio.
